Article
Uzbek equivalent of word “literature” (writing formed with letters) is “adabiyot” which means “morality”. This is what differs works of Uzbek writers from those of other world. That’s why the term “erotic literature” which has become very popular today in many cultures, seems strange in Uzbek…
Namangan literature, the important part of Uzbek literature has always been very well-known for its unique poetic representatives, such as Asiridin Akhsikatiy, Mashrab, Ibrat, Sufizoda, Usmon Nosir, which provided domination of poetry for many centuries.
The only famous writer in prose was Jonrid Abdullakhanov, author of dozens of novels, who was named by his father in honour of American writer John Reed. During the Soviet period, he even was the chief of Uzbek Branch of USSR literary fund. However, he was an exception to an average in Namangan literature…
Independence, together with all spheres in life, has changed the literature too. Writers of Namangan have also started to use different genres, like detective, fiction, mystery, science fiction in their works. Today Uzbek readers of all ages like novels by Isokjon Nishonov, Nurillo Abboskhon, Bokiy Mirzo, Abdurakhim Abdurahkmonov, Mukhammadrakhim Ummatov, Lobar Rustamova and other nation-wide famous representatives of Namangan prose.
Isokjon Nishonov, a sixty-two years old writer from Namangan, can be singled out as being the author of best-selling books, one of the most-published writers in Uzbekistan.
After creating plenty works in several genres, most notably in detective, Isokjon Nishonov has managed to combine detective, patriotic literature, realism, morals and adventure in one work, in his famous masterpiece “Afghan wind” (“Afgon shamoli”). What’s more with this work he introduced serial format to Uzbek literature.
…The life of Buran, a former commando, who served in the soviet army forced in Afghanistan, becomes completely different after being sent back to Kabul by his former chief. Chain of strange events leads him to be lone wolf and to fight against terrorism and evils in the world…
The work is created in serial format, as mentioned above and for today the readers have already gained ten books of “Afghan wind”.
This unique work and his author have attracted attention of international publishers. Isokjon Nishonov has been invited to different international literary events and book fairs. “Afghan wind”, first translated and published in Russian, then was introduced to German readers.
A big German publishing house Verlagshaus Schlosser published first book of this serial in German, “Afghanischer Wind” with translation of a local-Namangan specialist in German, professor of Namangan State University Zokhidjon Sodikov.
This publishing has beaten a path to the door of Namangan literature. The German publishers liked the success of Uzbek novelists and contacted Bokiy Mirzo, another well-known Namangan writer. His novel, “Love of a thief” (“Ugrining mukhabbati”) has been also published by Schlosser, as “Wolfsblut oder die Liebe des Diebes”.
German recognition has drawn big attention to the writers from other European publishers. Turkish and British publishing companies are preparing books of Isokjon Nishonov to publish in Turkish and English respectively.
Surely, spread of Namangan literature through translations will serve to the well-introduction of Uzbek real lifestyle to the world.
