The history of “Barkamol avlod” youth sport games arranged to serve to the further increase of attitudes towards sports, strengthening of the principles of healthy lifestyle in the society, and the organization of systematic sport competitions for pupils and students of the Republic, began in 2001. The Decree of Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan № 40 issued on January 9, 2001 “On the preparation and celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan” laid the foundation for the “Barkamol avlod” youth sport games among the students of academic lyceums and vocational colleges.
According to the Decree, the first Games took place in Jizzakh. April 30, 2001 is a historical date for the “Barkamol avlod” games: that day in Jizzakh there was held the opening ceremony of first competitions.
The status and prestige of the second Games, held in Andizhan in 2003 were enhanced due to the Decree of Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan № 244 issued on July 3, 2003 “On development of the system of sport competitions directed to the attraction of pupils and students to sports”. In the Games-2004 that longed one week, more than 3000 young athletes of the Republic competed in 14 different sports and 300 events.
The third “Barkamol avlod” Games was held in May 24-29, 2005 in Tashkent region. More than 2000 athletes competed in basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, boxing, ping-pong, football, kurash, wrestling, chess, rhythmic gymnastics and swimming. Young athletes from Andizhan, as it was in 2001, won the most of medals and ranked first at the Games.
Nukus hosted the next, fourth “Barkamol avlod” Games. About 1600 students of lyceums and colleges participated in the competitions that was held in May 17-20 2008 and competed in 12 sports, 165 events. Counting by total medals, the “Barkamol avlod-2008” has been a big win for the representatives of Karakalpakstan Republic.
From April 27 to May 3, 2011 the fifth “Barkamol avlod” competitions was held in Termiz. In the Games in which about a thousand perspective athletes participated, Tashkent city team won the largest number of medals and was ranked first in the teams’ medal table.
The next competitions, “Barkamol avlod-2014” youth sport games were hosted by Namangan in May 29-31, 2014. In this significant sporting event of the students of lyceums and colleges of the Republic 996 young athletes competed in 16 sports. Again everybody witnessed the dominance of Tashkent city team, hosts – Namangan athletes could manage to become the second.
The following, seventh “Barkamol avlod” games will be held in May 2017 again in Jizzakh, as it was 16 years ago. More than a thousand young athletes will compete in the Games, also called as “The Small Olympiads”. The detail for attention of the Jizzakh games is the fact that for the first time the “Barkamol avlod” competitions’ program will feature 17 sports. The “Barkamol avlod-2017” games are expected to have joyful atmosphere, intense competitions and unforgettable impressions.
